Jack's Helping Hand

Jack’s Helping Hand was founded by Paul and Bridget Ready in memory of their son Jack, whose three-year struggle with a rare form of brain cancer ended in 2004.

Our mission is to provide community programs that meet the unique challenges of children with cancer or special needs under the age of 21.

Like all children, Jack was an active boy but he needed special assistance to walk, communicate and play. Jack’s Helping Hand has programs that address the physical, mental and medical needs of children in our community. We provide the support families need to meet those needs.

Little Riders is an adaptive horseback-riding program that is specifically designed for children with physical and cognitive disabilities ages 4-21. Equine programs such as this one can help improve balance, strength, and coordination, which result in increased mobility, independence, and overall function. Classes take place in San Luis Obispo, and are led by Bonnie Burt, a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) registered therapeutic riding instructor. Bonnie works with a team of trained volunteers in an encouraging setting where children can experience the miracles of working with horses.

Ways to support this meaningful work is with financial support to help fund our riding scholarships, donate to our horse or program costs, or to volunteer!
